Julian Evans

Julian Evans was born on June 27, 1986. I don't think he wants me to go into too much detail here, but there are a few things I can say about him.

He's a student at Harvey Mudd College.

Prior to turning eighteen he was active in Boy Scouts; I'm proud to report that he attained the rank of Eagle Scout.

Julian plays chess fairly seriously, and participated in the 2004 National High School Tournament, but finished in the middle of the pack in the under-1500 division. He tied for fourth place in the 2005 Atlantic Open in the under-1400 division.

He was captain of his high school's quiz team, and a member of Team Maryland in the 2004 Panasonic Academic Challenge. He has also been active on Harvey Mudd's quiz team.

In his younger days he collected toy crustaceans -- mostly stuffed plush ones. He's got a wide variety of crabs and lobsters, ranging from one that appears to have been intended for a keychain up to a three-foot hand-made monster named Super Medic.

One of his favorites was Mr. Crabbie, maybe eight or ten inches across. When asked long ago what he'd like to see posted on the webpage about him, Julian decided to see if Mr. Crabbie could be scanned in. Not a mere photo of Mr. Crabbie, but Mr. Crabbie himself.

Rather to my surprise, it worked. So here, once again, is...

Mr. Crabbie!

Another noteworthy crustacean in the collection, as mentioned above, is Super Medic, who now has her own page. You can also find some brief mention of the adventures of Mr. Crabbie, Super Medic, and of course Julian in the trip report of our 1997 vacation.

Cathedral de Notre Dame

Julian's also got a modest collection of 3-D puzzles, such as the completed one shown here. (Yes, that's the Cathedral de Notre Dame de Paris.)

I've dedicated two and a fraction of my novels to Julian, a fact that he's rather proud of. The two are The Unwilling Warlord and The Dragon Society; the fraction is Split Heirs, which Esther Friesner and I wrote in collaboration and dedicated jointly to all four of our kids.
