Fictionwise logoAt one time Fictionwise was the top e-book distributor in the business, dealing primarily in reprints by established authors. In addition to publishing their own titles they distributed e-books for several other publishers, both paper and e-book, including Alexandria Digital Literature.

Then Amazon introduced the Kindle and the entire small and fragile e-book business that had gradually been built up before exploded, blowing the existing players away. Fictionwise held on longer than most, but eventually it was bought up by Barnes & Noble, who shut it down in December of 2012.
