So I’ve never had a checklist (I guess the usual term these days is “bucket list”)<\/i>, but I find myself looking back at various cool things I’ve done that I didn’t<\/i> really expect to ever do.<\/p>\n
(At least, I<\/i> think they’re cool.)<\/p>\n
Here are a few:
\n\tFlew a small plane.
\n\tClimbed the Great Wall.
\n\tHad a drink with Mickey Spillane
\n\tDined with Leonard Nimoy at his home.
\n\tScripted a comic book story with Alex Ross art.
\n\tChatted with Roger Zelazny.
\n\tShook hands with Isaac Asimov.
\n\tWent skiing. (Didn’t like it.)
\n\tWalked through the Circus Maximus.
\n\tWatched a storm blow in while standing atop the Eiffel Tower.
\n\tDickered with a silk merchant in Shanghai’s Old Town.
\n\tShot skeet off the tail of a cruise ship.
\n\tDrove a ’57 DeSoto up the Jersey Turnpike at 115 MPH.
\n\tPegged the speedometer on a ’69 VW bus.
\n\tHandled a Byzantine manuscript that used crushed rubies for its red ink.
\n\tHad my stories reprinted in textbooks ranging from fifth grade to college level.
\n\tClimbed the dome of St. Peter’s.
\n\tVisited the crypts of St. Paul’s.
\n\tRode a maglev train.
\n\tSailed through a big Atlantic storm.
\n\tGot drunk with a girl in the Latin Quarter in Paris, and wound up married to her.
