Alexandria Digital Literature was one of the first serious e-book publishers, known partly for its exceptional recommendation engine -- rate stories you've already read, and Hypatia, the librarian, by comparing your ratings to the thousands of other users, will recommend stories you'll probably like. She's surprisingly successful.
Unfortunately, Alexandria's economic model was much less successful, and the site is now semi-abandoned and only intermittently functional. The company has been reconstituted as the Seattle Book Company, an arm of Rosetta Solutions, Inc., but none of my stories transferred. At one time I had five short stories available at Alexlit, as listed to the right. Whether you can get at them now is a crapshoot. Some have been sub-licensed to other sites, such as Fictionwise and Electric Story.
