I don't know where the heck this story came from; I don't usually write weird western tales. I started writing it years ago. I remember I came up with the title first, and then the narrator, and it gradually grew from there until 2022, when I finally finished it.

I had absolutely no idea what to do with it, though; I couldn't even think of a market worth trying it on. I liked it anyway, so when I was looking for material to fill out the collection The Final Folly of Captain Dancy & Other Tall Tales, I included it.

The possibility of writing other stories about Nick Blaisdell has occurred to me, but as yet I haven't thought of any.
